Ike was the third man to die on my traditional marriage day

The first man I lost was okenna, a business man who resided in kogi, a minister of the word with so much passion and zeal for the things of God, we had planned our wedding g to fall on his birthday, our first baby would take after me while the second son would take after his height; he had an intimidating stature, I used to tease him with how jealous those choir girls would be knowing I had stolen the heart of their pastor away from them.

“But sweetie, you did not steal my heart, you won my heart and I prayed to win your heart” he said each time.

He knew how to make one feel butterflies each time, two years of courtship and little or no quarrels at all, apologies were like food to him; he never went to bed if we had an unresolved argument

“Just imagine the months it took to get you to agree to my proposal, you kept me on my toes”

When he first asked me out, I refused o consider him because he was that over spiritual brother who would never be romantic to his wife, he dressed well but I didn’t appreciate the fact that he looked serious always: at least that was my perception about him; he was the opposite.

I lost him to a mysterious death on my traditional wedding day; he suddenly fumed from the mouth and collapsed

No explanations given

 I asked God questions

“Why did you bring this man to me if you were not going to keep him forever?”

“Why do you treat me so harshly lord when all I have ever done was serve you with my life, my heart and everything I have”

“You said I was your beloved and you bought me with a price”

“First, you took daddy, then mummy now Ike too?”

But for some reason, it took no time for me to bounce back to the cheerful me full of thanks; I had sold myself to God, I just couldn’t imagine living without him.

I lost Francis, my second suitor on my birthday, he had just indicated interest to marry me with his people, and they brought drinks

Two years after ikem died, I had just secured my masters degree

I barely survived the shock; everyone thought I was going to die; confined to my dark room and months in the hospital

A cloud of despair took over me, I could barely pray nor eat

I held my bible with my mentor by my side and my parents walking in and out of my room to make sure I wouldn’t commit suicide

If only suicide wasn’t the answer to depression, to say I never considered it or thought of less painful suicide ways was a lie, it plagued me like mosquitoes at night, my browser had open pages of 1000 ways to commit suicide

“The name of the LORD is a fortified tower; the righteous run to it and are safe”

Proverbs 18:10

I wailed uncontrollably each time I heard that scripture

I first heard it when I lost Ikem

Kechi, was the third love of my life after three years and blatant refusal to consider any suitors; he died

I was definitely cursed and I knew it, I couldn’t afford to take down the lives of many prospective and agile young men to their early grave as a result of my endless aspiration and desire for marriage

“But lord, I never asked for these men, I never asked you to send me a suitor

“We must pray, there is a need for us to pray about this, you know I have always urged you on this enough is enough”

“If the foundation is faulty, what can the righteous do? “she said

Indeed, I needed to steer myself and step into my inheritance in Christ Jesus

“The name of the lord is a strong tower, the righteous run to it and are saved”

“What did you say dear?”

Those were the words first heard the day I lost my first suitor

“There is only one thing we can do now. We pray and trust the Lord to reveal whatever is behind this”

An indoor experience was what we needed to fight the battles of the spirit

And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus

Ephesians 2:6

We prayed in the Spirit and then I began to hear scriptures that cut through my heart.

“Arise oh lord and let the enemy be scattered, you said that He who follows you will not walk in darkness but will have the light of life”

“Expose every darkness Lord’

We switched back to tongues and back to the scriptures again.

I was never a huge supporter of warfare, it felt like I was simply invoking death and punishment on a person I should be praying to be saved, I was taught to pray for mercy and not for judgment but an adage says when a hunter meets a sight dangerous than his gun, he shoots faster and dangerously too.

“We wrestle not against flesh and blood but against principalities and powers in high places. In the name of Jesus, every dark places be exposed. May every despair be lifted this moment in the name of Jesus.

I laid on the floor, my tears flooded the entire room, I groaned and pushed further

“Lord, I rather die in your presence than walk away with no answers”

A burden was caressed away as we travailed. I was surprised. Suddenly, I felt light and strengthened in a way I couldn’t explain.

My phone rang the next night while I studied the bible, I had forgotten to put it in airplane mode, It was frank

………………………………………………………..

“You mean daddy?” my son asked

Yes my son, frank became your daddy after we married, he didn’t die nor suffocate, we have been married for thirty years now and you are of cause our last born

I had three children with frank, the man God sent to be my consolation after I lost three men, he was everything to me

“Sweetheart, are you going to tell all our children your life history he laughed giving me a kiss on the cheek

“Yes honey, I will”

“David, don’t mind your mother, predicament simply took out my rivals so I would be prepared by God to come claim my helpmeet”

“You wouldn’t believe that I had been praying for the foundations of my wife to be as well before we met”

I stared at him lovingly, he was my trophy, I usually called him my champion

“David dear, you must learn to pray without ceasing, pray for your wife starting now”

…………………………………………………………………………………………….

Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes.  For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.

Frontliner, there is a war to be fought and a battle to be won

Push until you see results, the enemy never rests

Hope you have started praying for your future husband or wife?

Spread the love
