Sometimes, it is not always about the desire to pray but about the words to pray and more so finding expression or rather the burden of prayer finding expression through your spirit man.
You know one important thing to note while praying is that prayer is a lifestyle and more than that prayer is life.
We communicate through the Holy Spirit to God in prayer because the spirit helps us to pray
“Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groaning which cannot be uttered.”
Romans 8:26 KJV
Prayer is like our typical everyday bank transactions. Even when we are stressed but badly need to sort out bank issues, we dress up and rush to the bank right, sometimes we stand on queues for hours without shouting at nobody in particular and after a while, we fill in our withdrawal or deposit slip and make necessary transactions and then head home happily.
Same goes to our prayer life, each morning we wake up and every afternoon as we go through the hustles of the day and as evening approaches when we need to rest from the day’s stress, we ought to make necessary transactions in the spiritual realm
When we need money from the bank, we sometimes ring up our account officer especially when we are making huge deposit or withdrawals.
The holy spirit is our account officer, he helps us to pray even when we are weak which is why we do not count on our fluency and heavy speech to get through to God in prayer, God doesn’t bother about your intonation or accent or even proper grammatical construction, syntax or all what not, what he is mostly concerned in is your faith and growth.
But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost”
Jude: 20 King James Version (KJV)
Last week we talked about this same topic on prayer, listen to our podcast right here http://preciousjewel.com.ng/how-to-pray-when-you-lack-words/
Exactly how should we be praying especially is something that I feel gets brought up again and again. There are books on it. Pastor preaches on it. There are many many blog posts on it. We think, maybe if we do it this way, God will hear me. Maybe if I try it that way, God will answer my prayer.
So often we feel we must be doing it wrong or we begin to feel like a broken record, praying for the same thing over and over again wondering “God when will you hear me”? God when will you answer my prayer? We assume there must be a right and wrong way to be praying, because our prayers just don’t seem to be as effective as other people.
If this is you, I want to let you in on something I stumbled upon one day when reading the Bible. Thankfully Jesus has given us direction on how we should be praying.
9 “This, then, is how you should pray:
“‘Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
10 your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
11 Give us today our daily bread.
12 And forgive us our debts,
as we also have forgiven our debtors.
13 And lead us not into temptation,[a]
but deliver us from the evil one.
Matthew 6:9-13 New International Version (NIV)
The only thing I really, really want to say is honestly and truly, the only way you could be doing prayer “wrong” is if your prayers are not sincere. God is happy beyond belief to be in communication with you. He is happy beyond belief that you go to Him asking for help and council in your life and that you are seeking His will. If you’re beating yourself up that you are doing something wrong, let me relieve you of that right now. God is pleased that you are turning to Him. God hears your prayers.
By now, you must be wondering if we are ever going to talk about how we should find this expression and the will to pray these prayers, these are attitudes to prayer that has also helped my Christian walk especially on days and weeks when am stressed out that I begin to miss Gods presence; oh! You wouldn’t know how sweet and ever pleasant his presence is till you miss fellowship with him for a single moment.
No wonder the psalmist cried:
My Soul Thirsts for You
A Psalm of David, when he was in the wilderness of Judah. O God, you are my God; earnestly I seek you;
my soul thirsts for you;
my flesh faints for you,
as in a dry and weary land where there is no water.
2 So I have looked upon you in the sanctuary,
beholding your power and glory.
3 Because your steadfast love is better than life,
my lips will praise you.
Psalm 63 English Standard Version (ESV)
Prayer seems to be a big challenge for most of us. So, as I write this post, I am not coming to you like the prayer warrior that I long to be. I am not her. At least not yet. But I want to be. I desire more. And I know God wants for me. He wants more for you
HOW TO PRAY WHEN YOU LACK WORDS TO SAY
- sing praises unto the lord your God
“Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name.”
Spiritual hymns and songs actually lift the spirit up, some say songs in prayer are for emotional and soulful Christians but I care less cause songs are my strong anchors during prayers, am a music lover and so might end up singing more
2 pray the psalms
You know despite the warfare life of David, he really loved God and as such took his time to write the books of psalms
The books of psalms are strongly birthed in the lace of Prayer, hunger, thirst for righteousness and pursuit for life.
Don’t just pray the psalms during warfare, pray the psalms to awaken your spiritual life
- Pray in tongues of men and angels
“Anyone who speaks in a tongue edifies themselves, but the one who prophesies edifies the church.”
1 Corinthians 14:4
Tongues in the upper room by Kenneth Hagin really changed my prayer life. it had lifted my support system in prayer to a high note teaching me to pray in tongues which I had been baptized in when I repented and received the baptism of the spirit
You don’t need elaborate speech dear; all you need is that the spirit finds expression in you
Allow the Holy Spirit to pray through you for he does
“In the same way the Spirit also helps us in our weakness, because we do not know what to pray for as we should, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with unspoken groanings.”
The Holy Spirit prays through us in words we do not understand
Except he gives you the gift of interpretation of tongues, it is not in your place to try to understand the tongues, he whom you pray to understands the language you speak
Let’s pray more, commune more. Complain and sleep less and put the enemy in confusion
