How to go back to God when you sin or miss fellowship with him

How to go back to God when you sin

I really do not want to write on this topic but it kept tugging me like a boy who needs candy from his mother and I do hope you learn few lessons on how to go back to God whenever you sin or go far from him. Yes, this is not just for Christians who have sinned in one way or another but equally for Christians who have sidelined God due to a busy schedule, stress or a glitch or another. The master calls on you to come back

Jewel is guilty of hurting the feelings of God a couple of times and I really want to stop. Most times, I wished I could be so perfect and never have to ask him for forgiveness because there would be nothing to repent from but quite unfortunately the nature of sin keeps pulling me to the dust

I cry as I write this to you to draw you back into the throne room because I have been at this juncture you are at currently, where you beat yourself up and try to blame devil, your village people or even your sin partners

I hate to break this news to you, you have no right whatsoever to blame anyone for your life of sin. You walked into that lifestyle even when you knew it would jeopardize your relationship with God. Perhaps, you had sex with that guy even when your conscience kept telling you it was wrong to do so. Maybe, you stole and cheated even when God tried to tell you to come out straight.

Time to be an adult about your mess

Most times we try to blame everyone but ourselves. it is always easier to say Mr. A or B caused my failure while you relax on your cushion and watch them suffer for your misdoings. I know this may not go down well with you because I do not dance to your guilt trip but honey I just need to be sincere with you on this matter that is if we will ever make any headway or find a solution

There is one thing I do at every down point in my relationship with God, I take responsibilities for my errors and even when there were people who I felt contributed to my errors, I shoulder the blame because I understand that is even the very first step to earning the lord’s mercy

Yes, we are all children of God but you know every father desires that his children grow to the point of maturity, being able to take responsibility for their actions. You really can’t explain how proud any Father is when a child is able to come to his senses to say boldly “yes, I did this and I am sorry”. Now, that is one sure way to distinguish the men from the boys, the sons from the children (I hope you do know that the bible refers to both gender as sons)

“The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise”

Psalm 51:17

The question is if your heart is broken and contrite enough to attract God’s sure mercies

You need to get above and beyond the arena of blame and come to a resolve to take responsibilities for your actions in life.

You have to be an adult and a son not just in life but equally in your relationship with God and one of the characteristics of full-fledged sons is the ability to accept their errors

Four months ago, I had quit my wonderful job at a catering company, battered inside; my spiritual life had gone down a windmill and was just drooling on the floor.

I struggled to connect with God, I had sold my life to the job and pleasure so much that I forgot how and what the voice of God sounded like

After I quit that job, I went on a spree of cleaning and dedication and purging and deep purification to reinstall my DNA and get back on track with God

Don’t get me wrong please, it is not wrong to work and earn money but in my case I let my job take the whole of me.The most important thing was not that job but my relationship with God. There are better ways to find a balance in your busy life and your Communion with God because at the end the king must suffer no loss on your account.

How to go back to God when you sin

This was the second time I felt like a loser and loner. The first was when I had dabbled into a sinful relationship with a brother. The moment I broke off that relationship; I knew I had to get back on track with God and cut him off entirely. Nothing deep really happened but sometimes you just need to be very sincere to yourself to know that a person’s friendship will cause you more harm than good

“Can a man take fire in his bosom and his clothes not be burned?”

Proverbs 6:27

When I returned home after I quit my job,I started on my way to a conscious and fresh start with God. I heard of a group of friends who were embarking on a set apart and I joined them to have some time for God and have him all to myself. Sometimes, you have to take a break from the crowd, just separate yourself to solitude and have the attention of God to yourself.

At that point all that was in my heart was that God gets me back to how we used to be. I wanted so much for him to break me and sentence me to death in the flesh (LOL. someone is probably wondering why I had to use that heavy word sentence to death)

You need to read this post: My death and the cross to gain more understanding

That was the focus of my set apart. Throughout the entire exercise I kept crying to him “lord let me be so full of you that nothing else matters but you”

Excuse me to grab my handkerchief!!

I understand what you are currently passing through. It feels like God is not near to you and his presence is just not felt anymore, the hunger of sin also keeps pulling you and you keep slipping up even while asking God for forgiveness.

Girl, I have good news. There is balm in Gilead. It is time to get on to the threshing floor and off the sheets

If you have not read Juniata Bynum’s “No more sheet and threshing floor”, you need to buy the hardcover or look for the PDF. Those books especially the “No more sheets” really blessed my life. I even go around talking about that book to anyone whose story is similar to yours and mine

You may not have had sex with that young man just like me but then the guilt of locking lips with him or allowing him caress your body so many times is just a feeling you cannot shake off

Read on to Discover how to go back to God and get rid of the lies of the devil. We know the accuser as a terrible liar and thief.

“Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour”

1 peter 5:8

It is his nature to point accusing fingers at you. He loves to condemn us before the lord but you know the surprise? I bet he didn’t see you coming at you in full force?

He has not imagined you getting up on your feet after you are done reading this post, take up your bible hungrily like a ravenous wolf, and get on the floor in tears not in guilt but in total brokenness to the lover of your soul

Mr Devil didn’t see this coming and you know what? I am happy he does not and will never because the devil is a bastard.

There is always a way out of that struggle

I don’t know what you have done in the past or even yesterday, all I care about is the absolute truth that Christ died for you on the cross of Calvary

Slipping into a life of sin is like being locked up in a room with no windows and no means of proper ventilation. You keep fighting to get out on your own and to breathe but alas you are helpless. You have no light bulb or torch to help you see. Your breath fails you because there is no oxygen to keep alive. So you give up fighting and resign yourself to fate until life is sunk out of you gradually but surely. You give up and die the death of an unarmed soldier. A shameful death.

“How have the mighty fallen, and the weapons of war perished!”

2 Samuel 1:27

Do you remember this song of the bow written by King David over the death of Saul and his friend Jonathan?

You know the good news? Suddenly a man opens the door and walks in. Seeing your helpless state, he does not taunt you or mock you. Instead he stretches out his hand and carries you out into the open and as soon light touches your face and you breathe in; you come alive and give him a big hug. That man is Jesus

Get this, Jesus does not have a problem with how much you have sinned, he only has a problem with when you will choose to stop sinning and choose to serve him totally. Don’t trivialize the blood of Jesus

Listen, Jesus knows that man is incapable of helping themselves. He said to the Pharisees:

“When Jesus heard it, he saith unto them, they that are whole have no need of the physician, but they that are sick: I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance”.

Mark 2: 17

Jesus seeks to revive and build dead altars. Shake up helpless and downtrodden soldiers of the cross. Revive women who have come to a cross road and give them a fresh map for their life.

Run back to God immediately

It is not always easy to go back after sinning but always easy to walk away. You know why? Your heart is designed in such manner that it feels guilt and once that guilt encapsulates you; you shy away from the presence of God and suddenly start to hear voices of condemnation from the enemy. The more you hear them; it sinks in and you quietly back out until you are too far away that you just cannot get back’

You are scared that God will never forgive you right? I tell you God is afraid that you might never see the sacrifice of his son; Jesus is scared that you are blind to his blood. He fears that you may not see that he is the only high priest you need to make atonement for you

“For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin”

Hebrews 4:15 (KJV)

So what do you do dear friend? HOW DO YOU GO BACK TO GOD WHEN YOU SIN

  • Get on your knees and ask his forgiveness.

Ask his forgiveness and plead with him to have mercy on you. That is surely the first step. I like this song by Theophilus Sunday that says “With you Lord, I can be naked and not be ashamed, with you lord I can be open and not afraid”

God already knows what you did. To confess your sin is to “agree with” God and admit that you were wrong. Say “Father I’m guilty. I agree with you and I know that what I did was wrong.” Scripture says He will forgive you and cleanse you.

You can even talk to a higher authority like your pastor or spiritual mentors or even a worthy friend

There is one less guilt we feel each time we let others in on what we did. It lessens the grip of the devil on us

“If we confess our sin, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness”

1 John 1:9 (ESV)

  • Remember who you are: Child of the Most High

You are a Child of the Most High God. He is your Father. You are His son or daughter. God wants the best for you. He is not ashamed of you. The Lord knows you aren’t perfect and He wants to help you and shape you into a better person

” To all who receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God.

John 1:12 (ESV)

Turn your face to Him, knowing that He is love and his arms are wide open to embrace you. What he wants more than anything is for you to be back in connection with Him.

What do you have to fear about? What is the worst that could happen? The worst that could happen is that accusation of the devil. We got to kick his butt and say to him you cannot steal my joy. I am going back to my lover; I am going to the cross

Get up the floor of guilt and back into your secret place. Join me say this resounding words to the enemy: “Devil you have played my mind long enough. Also, you have held me down with stories and tales of woes and destruction. Your time is up.

It is time to pack up and leave my life because I am no more a slave to sin. I belong to the lord.

I am going back to meet him at the cross where he died. And, on the throne where he sits at the right hand of the father”
